Shift At Midnight is a multiplayer gas station management horror game from developer Bun Muen, available through a subscription service. Players stock shelves, take deliveries, meet nightly sales quotas, and keep the store clean. The differentiator: each customer must be interrogated to determine if they are human or a doppelganger. Using character IDs and computer cross-checks, you verify details and observe behaviour before letting anyone leave. Miss one, and they return later in the same shift to kill you and your friends. If a creature escapes, you board up doors, lay traps, and hide. Story Mode delivers 13 randomly generated shifts. A free Endless Mode update is planned for Q4 2026, adding exclusive customers, weapons, traps, and monsters. Multiplayer and proximity chat are central features.

Doppelganger Interrogation and ID Checks

Every customer requires scrutiny. Examine their ID, cross-check details in the computer, and observe their behaviour. If you suspect they are not human, execute them on site—then clean up the mess. Miss a doppelganger, and they will return later in the same shift as a monster to kill you and your friends. This detective loop turns a routine gas station shift into a tense verification process. The game provides no shortcut; you must decide who lives or dies based on evidence from the ID and computer records.

Gas Station Management and Random Shifts

Your nightly duties include stocking shelves, accepting deliveries, and selling enough products to meet a quota. You must also keep the store clean. Each shift is randomly generated, meaning no two shifts are the same. Story Mode contains 13 such shifts. Character customisation lets you personalise your worker. A free Endless Mode update is planned for Q4 2026, adding exclusive customers, weapons, traps, and monsters. This management loop forces you to balance retail tasks with survival preparation, as every missed quota or dirty floor may have consequences.

Multiplayer and Proximity Chat

Multiplayer is where the game thrives. Work together with friends—or at least be together—as you manage the gas station and interrogate customers. Proximity chat enhances communication, letting you coordinate ID checks, share suspicions, and react to doppelganger attacks. When a creature escapes, you can barricade doors, place traps, and hide together. The source states that survival is no longer guaranteed once a monster is loose. Co-op play turns each shift into a shared horror scenario, where one player's mistake can doom the entire group.
